About IBD
Intelligent by Design was started in 2004 with the idea of bringing quality, fun and pure science enrichment classes to young minds (K-9th). IBD is built on the premise that every child (young adults) is designed (created) with inherent qualities. We strive to enhance and grow these qualities by emphasizing three core values-The IBD motto. Children are a design of:
- Intelligence
- Purpose
- Excellence
In the pure sense it takes intelligence to get intelligence. All of creation has inherent traits of intelligence. However, only the human race has the ability (along with the drive, or ambition) to increase and build upon this inherent intelligence, or not! We at IBD want to encourage building upon the intelligence level that each child has been given.
We at IBD believe each person has a reason (purpose) for existence. This is IBD's "world-view"; that our existence has a distinct purpose, or function to fulfill in life's journey. By learning and understanding the mysteries of the world around them children will discover what that God given purpose is as they grow and seek it.
This word also means "quality," "fineness," "merit," "distinction." These are positive and action words. Excellence isn't just handed to you; we have to work to earn it. IBD wants to encourage this by challenging our students to always do their best. That always striving to work hard at the task at hand is good for both body and soul which is what we were created for; Excellence!
Who we are?
Karen Wood has been providing quality teaching for over 25 years. She received her B.A. from Chico State University, CA in 1982 and began her teaching career in Zuni, NM at Saint Anthony's Mission School. Karen taught the 5th grade class for two years until making a move back to California to the High Desert town of Apple Valley. There she started her public school teaching career at Mariana Elementary in the Apply Valley Unified School District until leaving in 2002, moving to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. In 2002 Karen was hired at the Early Learning Pre-school and continued there until 2004 when IBD started.

In our science enrichment courses (Chemistry, Physics, Biology) we use the material from Gravitas Publications written by Dr. Rebecca Keller. What does IBD believe?
Early Child Development
Studies have shown that exposing young minds to various areas of education has aided in brain development. This is why IBD believes by simply introducing the sciences to young minds will stimulate their thinking process as well as position our students for more advanced studies.Teaching Real Science
We say "real" science because the curriculum we use is neutral from either an evolutionary or creationist world view. Science in its true form is purely and simply a tool. A tool that is used as a means to attempt to understand the world around us.Does IBD Believe in Creation?
